Compact

What is the Somerset Compact?

The Somerset Compact, launched in April 2006, is an agreement between the voluntary and community sector and the public sector to improve the relationship between the two sectors. Since then there have been a number of reviews of the Somerset Compact but his year in line with the national “Compact Refresh” there is a more wide-ranging review taking place.

The Somerset Compact Working Party (see below for membership) has produced a questionnaire for all interested parties to have their say. Key issues this hope to address are

  • Awareness there is of the Somerset Compact
  • Changes which might be required to the Somerset Compact to bring it up to date e.g. with regard to commissioning
  • The process of making a challenge against the Compact

The Somerset Compact Working Party are:Penny Guppy, NHS Somerset Chair and Somerset Compact Working Group

  • Phil Lincoln – Somerset County Council, Community Directorate
  • Penny Guppy – NHS Somerset (Chair)
  • David Stapleton – Director of SCIPP
  • David Baker – Chair of LINK Project
  • Cara Faulkner – CHYPPS

Penny Guppy Chair of the Somerset Compact Working Group said:

“There is a clear acknowledgement across the sectors in Somerset of the need for the Compact to be a working document. The challenge is to significantly raise its profile and embed the Somerset Compact in the day to day business of organisations across the county”
