Strengthening the Voluntary Sector

Strengthening the Voluntary Sector in Somerset

This project is funded by the Big Lottery Fund through the BASIS 2 programme and began in August 2009.

The aim of the project is to support the voluntary and community sector in Somerset with organisational development and financial sustainability through a programme of front line service delivery combined with some strategic infrastructure development. This will be achieved through delivering the following objectives which will be funded by this project:

  • Provision of a dedicated information and resource service to support organisation development in front line VCS organisations.

  • Provision of specialist services to ensure a holistic approach to meeting organisations’ development needs including support with income generation, financial diversification, policy development/engagement and partnership working.

  • Infrastructure support and co-ordination to develop an annual VCS partnership event to celebrate the work of Somerset’s VCS and raise the profile of the fundraising efforts of these groups.

  • Establishment of an infrastructure provision dedicated to the needs of VCS groups working in the adult health and social care sector.

SCIPP is the accountable body for this project and is working with a number of delivery partners:

  • Taunton Deane CVS - Development Worker

  • Mendip Community Support - Mendip Development Worker and Sedgemoor Development Worker

  • Engage West Somerset - West Somerset Development Worker

  • South Somerset Voluntary and Community Action - South Somerset Development Worker

  • Somerset Black Development Agency - Development Worker

The Adult Health and Social Care Network is currently being commissioned.
